Pumpkins Coming Along Nicely

The first planting of pumpkins is coming along well. They have had to overcome a few challenges-like getting run over by a quad runner!- but all in all doing fine.

Last Year's Staff

Our entire staff for 2006 ( in addition to myself and my hubby) consisted of our good friend Laurie Baker who donated a whole day of her time to help pick, wrap, pack and deliver our first order of pumpkins. Laurie you are a blessing, Thank You!

Turk's Turban

I think Turk's Turban squash are so beautiful with all their different colors and stripes. One of the first 'pumpkins' we ever engraved was a Turk's Turban and it scarred so beautifully we kept growing them.

The first pumpkins are up!

This time of year is very exciting for pumpkin growers. After months of pouring over seed catalogs choosing which varieties to grow, it is time to actually get those seeds in the ground! Our first planting is up and running- only 110 days left 'til harvest!

It took a big pumpkin...

Posted by PicasaThis is the largest engraved pumpkin we grew last year (2006). Susan Branch had suggested putting this charming quote from Thoreau on a pumpkin but I didn't think it would fit. Well, it took a big pumpkin but it worked! The quote reads: " I would rather sit on a pumpkin, and have it all to myself, than be crowded on a velvet cushion".

White 'Autumn' Pumpkin

Last year we tried engraving white pumpkins for the first time. Some of them came out and some did not. This one came out really nice. They have a totally different look than the traditional orange pumpkins.
